Introduction to Odor (NoseWork)
Intro to Odor – Building the Scent Connection
Service Description
Intro to Odor – Building the Scent Connection Get ready to take your dog’s nose work skills to the next level! In Intro to Odor, we introduce your dog to their first target odor — the same scents used in official scent detection trials. Dogs learn that finding a specific odor (like birch, anise, or clove) earns them their favorite reward, turning sniffing into an exciting and rewarding game. This class focuses on: Transitioning from food searches to odor-based searches Building clear odor recognition and strong indication behavior Strengthening your handling, observation, and leash skills Boosting your dog’s confidence and drive while maintaining fun and teamwork Whether you’re preparing for competition or simply want to deepen your dog’s natural love of sniffing, this class is a great step forward in your nose work journey. Prerequisite: Completion of an Intro to Nose Work or Beginning Nose Work class (or instructor approval). This is a 6-week group course for those dogs who have completed a Nose Work Introduction Course. There are four forms to be submitted as well: Hold Harmless Form, Social Media Consent, a Vaccine Verification, and a COVID-19 Waiver. If there is inclement weather that does not allow us to meet in person, the class will be rescheduled accordingly. You will need: LOTS of HIGH Value Treats, preferably human food. Water and a bowl. Means of keeping your pet cool in the vehicle while waiting. Collar/Harness Leash
